I got an email saying that I could have a big if not huge one. But what it is? Is a big or huge one a good or bad thing? How will it effect my taxes? What about my credit score? Will it fit in the apartment or would I need to get warehouse space for it? Is it something you’d display proudly, like an award?
I’m really confused. Maybe I just need more coffee.
I like MMO games. I’m still playing World of Warcraft, but the desire is waning. So what’s next? Well, I’ve been spending a decent amount of time perusing the Dungeons & Dragons Online site and forums. I’ve been a member there since September of 2004, but mostly just lurking. Now that alpha testing has started, I’m looking at it more closely. So far, I’m actually liking what I’m seeing. I’m a bit surprised at that because I don’t really play much pen & paper D&D anymore, but I’m still very familiar with the rules. I prefer the Hero System, but that’s another story.
DDO might just have the right mix of features for me. There is no, none, zero PvP. That’s a huge plus. It’s designed as a huge, main hub city (Stormreach) from which you venture out on quests and missions. There’s no grinding because you only earn XP from quest completion back in the city. There’s spell points for spellcasts (think mana) so less issues of downtime or pre-memorization. All content outside the city is instanced so it’s just you and your group. You get a quest and get a Indiana Jones style loading screen (red line showing your path) as you’re travelling to the quest area. Don’t worry, you can have encounters while en route. Frankly, I’ve been looking for something like that for a long time. There are instances called "Danger Zones". These are for up to 15 people, but they don’t have to be grouped so you can solo them or just explore part of it while others are exploring another part.
More info will come as it gets closer to release, but it’s actually looking really good for a fantasy based online game. That’s right. I didn’t call it a MMORPG because it really isn’t. It’s D&D Online, not D&D MMORPG. At the moment, they’re looking at a server cap of about 1000 players online per server. It’s designed for a more intimate experience with smaller groups of people. No real raid content is planned either, but they’re thinking about it. When I think D&D, I don’t really think "raid" so it’s fine with me.
Now the release date for DDO isn’t til late this year or perhaps early next. I guess WoW will have to do til then. Maybe I can get my full Beaststalker’s by then?

Happy "Bunch of Fives" day!
Which brings up a thought: could the D-Day anniversary next year be the end of the world?
Today’s soup is Cosmic
No.
So we got Seafarers of Catan for Kurt for his birthday. Turns out, he also got Cities and Knights of Catan. No, we did not plan this, it just happened that way. The universe is an odd place.
